I wonder if microformats make sense to incorporate in our efforts? No sense in reinventing the wheel, especially if there is a user base that has already adopted things like hcards.

I need to understand more about OpenID as well. And, since that PDXWI meeting with Attensa, I wonder if LPAD is the feed authentication protocol we're looking for...

Great summary of an interesting conversation.

Before I can start to understand this I need to know more about OpenID. The guide at http://www.intertwingly.net/blog/2007/01/03/OpenID-for-non-SuperUsers got me started but I now find that I need to know more about Yadis (http://yadis.org/wiki/Main_Page) also!

We should track the folks at JanRain (http://janrain.com/) because it seems to me that there is overlap between this and thier work on OpenID's Simple Registration Extension 1.0. "OpenID Simple Registration is an extension to the OpenID Authentication protocol that allows for very light-weight profile exchange. It is designed to pass eight commonly requested pieces of information when an End User goes to register a new account with a web service" (http://tinyurl.com/o2hbp). Odd that they picked 8 specific attributes. I wonder if it is extensible.

Others want to use existing hCard formats (http://factoryjoe.com/blog/2007/11/01/hcard-for-openid-simple-registration-and-attribute-exchange/) but seems to me that while this might be simple it is even more limiting. This is justified in the article but I this means it does not meat your requirement.

Interesting area for sure.

Asside - Who has an Apple? There has long been talk of RSS reader in the address book (http://brilliantdays.com/rss-feeds-in-leopard-address-book/). Is that delivered? It is useful?
